Military Museum :Bangladesh Independence Day Outing

Yesterday was Bangladesh's Independence day. And, for the first time in my life, I decided to celebrate it by well, dressing up in Flag color codes sari. That was all fine, but a tad bit ironic since now, I'm a US citizen! huh! LOL

These days, I think, everyone celebrates everything just to be able to use the excuse either for dressing up, eating out, taking pics, posting nonstop nonsenses on FB pages etc etc etc and very rarely, I think, people these days celebrate because well, they genuinely care about the actual "event" or "cause" and so on.

Unfortunately, I went on a outing yesterday using the excuse to wear Green and Red color combo sari and have Eliana wear the same color combo dress and take some pics. So sad, but true!

Funny thing was, after all that prep (like choosing the sari to wear weeks ago...deciding the spot we would go to) when we actually went to visit the Military Museum (something that I noticed ever since I arrived in this city, but never got a chance to go...and I think, yesterday was a good timing) we were done within 30 minutes! What! All that shindig for 30 minutes of outing? Sadly that was the case, as it was bit hot and all we did was walk toward the museum (there were some tanks and canons set up along the way) and came back up and took tons of pics. We didn't enter the museum since hubs didn't feel like it as he thought there won't be much to see, and it won't be worth to get into that crowd. And, of course, miss E was acting little careless (she hardly smiled as sun was right on her)....

Nonetheless, a good decision to go out since we didn't venture outside after coming back from our little family vacation, which was almost a week ago!!

p.s: It took me almost whole day to finish up this post. Why? Cause there were power outage at least 3 times while I was posting...and each time it goes out for 1 hour! OMG...life in beyond at this moment sucks!

Vienna 1900 : Neue Galerie New York

The other day while coming home from the Met, I saw Neue Galerie on the 5th avenue, 86 street. It's a museum for the German and Austrian Art. What caught my eyes was the banner on street post that says currently at the Galerie there is an exhibition called "Vienna 1900: Style and Identity". I would love to see that only caz when I was visiting Vienna two years ago, I actually didn't get to visit any museum!!!!! How pathetic and sad that was despite staying there for about 10 days. Won't get into too much details on why...but I was really looking forward to seeing "The Kiss" art by Gustav Klimt, which didn't happen. I know, this is not gonna be like being in Vienna and actually enjoying a museum there....but I will be happy with what we got here. This exhibition does have works by Gustav, so I guess that's good!

So, I did look into their website and I see, the admission price is 15.00!!! yawzaaaa!! But good news is, this museum participates in some museum mile thing and thanks to Bloomberg (I'm guessing the financial Bloomberg not the mayor ;) ) they have First Friday of Every month free from 6-8 p.m., at least for the rest of the year. So, of course I want to visit then...which will be on June 3rd! I hope I will have nothing else going on and can get to see the exhibition.

And they have cafes that sell Sacher Torte!! Another thing that I missed in Vienna...being in actually Viennese cafe and pretending to be one of those intelectual who sip coffee all day long and talk nonsense about politics and such! I did have Sacher Torte...not a fan of it however! And the price of the Sacher Torte at this cafe is whopping $8.00.........nooooooo!!!! Needless to say, I won't be having that!

This is an article I found on the net regarding this exhibition, which explains things a bit more:

Farmhouse in the City of New York!

Who knew there was a farm house right in the City? I did! I did! Well, although nothing in Manhattan can remind you about the glorious rural past of this place anymore, certainly there is one house that can do so in Inwood, upper North Manhattan. I have been passing by this house that is quite unique looking almost all the time since last 5 or 6 years. However, I completely neglected to pay any attention to it. As far as I knew, it was the house of the Dyckman, after whom the street has been named. Nothing more. I mean yea, if a street is named after someone, and it was that some one's house, then I guess, that someone must have been someone special! But to  what extent Dyckman was special...I did not know, and didn't care to know. Well...until sometime ago recently. I finally payed attention one day and saw the sign that said, Dyckman Farmhouse Museum! It actually even has opening hours! WHAT! I don't think I've seen anyone queuing up to get in to check this museum out ever, but that doesn't matter. A museum is a museum is a museum.
And it's special!

Actually, Dyckman farmhouse is the only farmhouse that remained in its original building place since 1784!
And, it is a "National Historical Landmark" since 1967! I mean, they mean to tell me that this house has the same importance as umm...Empire State Building, American Stock Exchange, Brooklyn Bridge..etc etc! Then what a great find right in the neighborhood!
I am ashamed to say that I have yet to pay an actual visit to this museum to check out the interior, all I have been exposed to is the exterior! Also, guess what? According to the Farmhouse Museum's website, the admission price is only $1 USD, and free for children under 10! Oh, also it actually has a garden, which is apparently free!
So what am I waiting for? I must go one day when I go out to do grocery!
In the meantime, enjoy the lovely exterior views of the Dayckman Farmhouse captured by me on my camera
